Both parent and baby benefit from the ancient tradition of Infant Massage. Regular massage enhances bonding, and provides numerous other benefits for babies including:
- Reduction in discomfort from colic, gas, and constipation
- Increased sense of being loved and accepted
Central to all of the many benefits are the deepened relaxation and bonding which benefit both parent and baby. Parents find doing massage with their little ones relaxes them too. Additionally they find they gain a deeper understanding of their baby’s communication cues. Parents are encouraged to massage and communicate with babies in an interactive method which acknowledges the baby’s individual needs and developmental level. Parents find the classes to be both supportive and informative with discussions on touch and related topics such as infant crying and communication.
Group and private classes available
Group classes meet for 3 consecutive sessions (1 1/2 hour each) and are limited to 6-8 families. Classes are open to babies age 4 weeks to crawling, and one or both parents are welcome.
A common question is “Do I need to take a class to know how to massage my infant correctly?” The answer is “No.” However the class is encouraged as it will further educate parents about their touch, and related topics discussed in class complement the communication based approach to the massage. Additionally, coming to the class generally motivates parents to get in to a regular routine with massaging their babies. Being in a group class allows parents to learn from others whose baby may be at a different developmental stage than their own.
